'The Breakup Playlist' hits it big in the box-office

"The Breakup Playlist" earned an impressive P15-million gross on its opening day!

The Piolo Pascual and Sarah Geronimo starrer opened in approximately 200 cinemas nationwide on July 1, 2015.

Piolo is Philippine cinema's current Box Office King for the movie "Starting Over Again." Sarah was a two-time Box Office Queen for "A Very Special Love" and "You Changed My Life" in 2009.

"The Breakup Playlist" is Piolo and Sarah's first movie together and their team-up, considering their respective box office appeals, is a sure hit.

A co-production between Star Cinema and Viva Films, the movie is the second mainstream one for director Dan Villegas whose "English Only, Please" earned him a Best Director award at the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The screenplay was written by the director's girlfriend, Antoinette Jadaone, who is known for directing "That Thing Called Tadhana," the highest-grossing local indie film to date.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, another Star Cinema movie hit it big in the box-office - "Just The Way You Are."

Starring Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, it earned a P12-M gross on its opening day.
